Clients Who Are a Good Fit for The Santa Fe Therapist
Clients often include artists and writers, extra sensitive and empathic people (HSPs), medical professionals (MDs, NPs, PAs, RNs, DOMs) and psychotherapists.
Whether or not you’ve been in therapy in the past doesn’t matter. We meet you right where you are, without shaming or judging, and together, we’ll move forward toward your goals, dreams and desires.
The most important thing in your healing and personal growth is the willingness to gently face your fears and begin establishing the new habits that will bring you success.
And if that sounds scary? That’s OK. Of course it is. Part of healing and gettin’ on with your life is to learn how to not run away from what scares you. Because that’s how you start making the changes you need to make so that you can begin having what you say you want.
It’s how the magic starts happening for you.
your goals + (our training + experience + expertise) = success
Success is based on your goals. We don’t dictate what those are, or judge or shame you. We’ll help you get where you want to go, do what you want to do, and move toward the life that’s waiting for you.
Healing and Therapeutic Modalities at The Santa Fe Therapist
At The Santa Fe Therapist, we use a sophisticated, interdisciplinary approach to the art and science of healing and therapy.
We’ve found that the following therapeutic modalities are powerful agents of change for clients. Because your needs will change as we work together, we’ll start where you are and go from there. If you don’t like something (not every client wants to learn mindfulness, for instance), great. We’ll do something else, something that feels right for you and produces the results you want.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
“Cognitive” is about how you think, what thoughts you’re thinking, and how your thoughts cause you to “behave” (behavioral). Neuroscience research has produced tons of data to show how much your thoughts affect your behavior, for better or worse. You have a lot more control to manage your thoughts than you might realize. Learning to manage your thoughts helps manage your actions, which are the foundation of your life.
DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy)
DBT is especially effective for out-of-control emotions and emotional regulation, and is founded on simple mindfulness and CBT principals. In my opinion, the name of the therapy is too long, too confusing, and sort-of scary sounding. But it’s actually simple to learn and use, and incredibly powerful to help you be the one in charge of your life, rather than bounce around like a pinball.
ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy)
ACT is a cool combination of techniques that gently help you see and accept yourself, step into being responsible for you can change about your choices, and commit to making those changes. It’s based on your strengths, your goals, and what you need to do in order to have what you want.
Narrative Therapy
You’re so much more than the stories you were taught about who you are and what you’re here to do. While you didn’t control earlier narratives, as an adult, you now get to create the fresh, new narratives that reinforce your agency, deepen emotional and psychological strengths, and focus on success, peace and happiness.
This is a gentle, non-shaming, creative way to step into your authentic self, and start taking action to get what and who you want.
Existential Therapy
Your existence is imbued with purpose and meaning. But some folks have lost touch with what those are, or have been too afraid to take the risk of being themselves, or were never given the chance to feel into the truth of who they are and why they’re here. Existential therapy invites you to explore the big-picture questions of what it means to be human, and what your place in the family of things might be.
Transpersonal Therapy
A non-religious, non-judgmental, non-shaming connection to something outside of your mind can be a profound healing practice. The connection can be with the Universe, the Goddess, Gaia, and/or your doggo. While not religious, it’s definitely sacred.
Depth Psychology
Shadow work invites you to shine a light on what lies hidden in the depths of your psyche, and includes gently exploring your fears as well as bravely getting to know your strengths and gifts. It’s an exploration of the treasure sitting at the feet of the dragon of your fears.
Positive Psychology
Yes, I love positive psychology. I love that it’s founded on learning how to emphasize and expand what’s right and good about us, rather than how messed up we are. As the founder, Dr. Martin Seligman, said, “[its purpose is to] steer psychology away from the darkness and toward light.” I also love how deeply researched findings and strategies are — it’s all very “evidenced-based.” Finally, I so appreciate how respectful of people positive psychology is. I mean, really?! What a concept.
Mindfulness
Everything is better with mindful awareness! Truth is, it sort-of saved my life back in the day, at a time in my life when I was so miserable I would’ve done anything to feel better. Exploring your core beliefs; understanding the connection among your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors; and living the life that fits you, rather than you fitting into a life that was never yours are just some of the benefits of mindfulness.
Creative, Innovative and Complementary Tools
Astrology, tarot, simple soul- and earth-based practices, process writing and journaling, creative contemplative techniques, and innovative ways to help you access your inner knowing can all be used, if you’re open to them and feel safe doing so.
Emotional safety is the foundation for you doing the work that will best support your health, wellbeing, and happiness.
