Online therapy in New Mexico makes it possible for your healing journey to be as easy and successful as possible. Online therapy has proven to be an effective way to help you. Your healing and transformation can start now.
Whether you live in Santa Fe, Taos, Las Vegas, Pecos, Tesuque, El Dorado, Albuquerque, or anywhere in New Mexico, the Santa Fe Therapist offers online therapy to serve your needs.
I’ve invested in the advanced training and use a state-of-the-art Electronic Health Record (EHR) to make sure you have the best possible experience with online counseling. My expertise with online therapy, and using an EHR, protects your privacy. And don’t worry, I don’t keep any session notes in the EHR. I do old-school hand-written notes, and store them in a locked filing cabinet in a locked room. Notes from your sessions can never be hacked.
My commitment to your mental health, wellbeing, and healing using online therapy is the same commitment I bring to every session.
Online counseling is warm and friendly, and personal. It’s just the two of us in a private, online room, one that is entirely confidential and secure on my end.
All the techniques I teach you are just as effective online as they are in person.
How Can Online Therapy Help Me?
There are a lot of benefits to doing online therapy, including that it can reduce stress, anxiety, and distress. It also gives you more precious time.
You don’t have to get ready and then drive anywhere in the crazy Santa Fe traffic, or get in the car for a long drive. And it’s very convenient, of course, for winter driving conditions, especially if you live in one of our beautiful mountain communities like Taos, Pecos, Las Vegas, or Los Alamos.
And of course, you’ll be safe with online therapy if you’re worried about Covid-19. Protecting yourself or someone you love is easy with virtual therapy. And if you’re immunocompromised or dealing with another health condition that makes being out in the world challenging, all that stress disappears.
When you’re depressed, it can take a lot of energy to get out of the house. With online counseling, all that energy can be used for getting healthier and feeling better.
If you’ve got a 9-to-5 job (virtual or in-person), you can still take care of yourself with lunchtime sessions. Or you may be able to schedule online counseling sessions that fit into your work day. I have several clients who do that for themselves.
No matter why you’re reaching out for help, a lot of stress and overwhelm disappear when the only thing you need to do is log onto a video session.
Finally, no matter where you live in New Mexico, you can access high-quality therapy from the comfort of home.
Are There Risks to Online Therapy in New Mexico?
Almost everything important about creating the confidential, secure, and sacred space necessary for productive sessions is possible with online counseling. And there are also a few differences and things to know about online therapy.
Virtual sessions aren/t the same as an in-person visit due to the fact that we won’t be in the same room. I know that might seem obvious, but it’s important to remind yourself. Honestly? If you’re new to online conferencing, it takes just a few minutes for most people to feel comfortable with online therapy.
Also, to have a video session together, you’ve got to have a reliable, strong internet connection. Sometimes that might be a problem if you live in an adobe dwelling with thick walls or are in a very rural location. If your internet connection isn’t solid, we can use the phone for sessions, which I do with several clients who are very satisfied with that way of working.
Next, even if you do have a reliable internet connection, your session could be interrupted because of a technical glitch. If that happens, we’ll make every effort to re-connect. And if that’s not working, we’ll finish the session using the phone.
Finally, if it becomes impossible to continue, we’ll re-schedule for another time (which has never happened, by the way).
What to Remember About Online Therapy
Remember that you’re in charge — if you’d rather use the phone, that’s fine. If you’d prefer to see me using confidential video conferencing, that’s also great. And if the videoconferencing connections are inadequate, you can always change your mind about holding sessions that way.
Please know that if you have any questions about how online counseling works, we’ll schedule a free 15-minute phone consult to get your questions answered and feel comfortable. And if you need some help figuring out how to use the Electronic Health Record to access your video sessions, I’ll help you do that.
What’s My Responsibility When I do Online Therapy in New Mexico?
Finally, and very importantly, you’re responsible for ensuring that you’re in a place that’s free of distractions and has no other people in it or around it. You’ve got to have total privacy and freedom from interruptions. Because the truth is that you give yourself a gift when you feel emotionally safe enough to have a successful online counseling session. (Pets are welcome, of course!)
The bottom line is that I provide you with the confidential, HIPAA-secure EHR and video conference link. My office is secure, private, and confidential; there are no interruptions ever. Also, I do not maintain session notes within the EHR. I handwrite notes during sessions, and store them in a locked filing cabinet in a locked room. This means your notes can never be electronically hacked.
We want to make sure that none of your information is shareable. No recordings, no screenshots of sessions, no social media sharing. We’re creating a sacred space together, which helps you stay committed to the learning you want to do. Doing these few things creates and maintains that.
