I’m Melanie, and I’m a counselor in Santa Fe who specializes in helping high-achieving, high-functioning women who feel lost and scared — no matter how strong and accomplished they are — re-connect with themselves and their dreams, and discover what brings them joy and happiness.

Most of my clients have been thinking about working with a therapist for a while, but they’re not always sure their problems are serious enough to get help.

They’ve been OK with how things are, even though things aren’t really OK, or are even pretty bad (make sense?). They’ve gotten so used to the struggle that they can’t remember what it feels like to sleep well, and feel good about the day ahead of them.

Also, many of my beloved clients have trust issues, and want to make sure they’re emotionally safe before opening up their hearts, which I totally honor and respect. After all, it’s not always easy to shift from being the one who’s in charge of and on top of everything to feeling vulnerable and unsure.

My clients learn that it can be a profound experience to be heard with compassion and kindness. Most usually feel lighter and more hopeful after the very first session, and always leave with at least one new idea to try out during the week.

Doing this deep, healing work gives you a chance to slow down and reflect, and make fresh, new conscious choices. For a lot of clients, it’s their special “me” time every week. And they enjoy working virtually; it’s the most efficient and convenient way to juggle a busy schedule.

People usually work with me once a week for an average of 8 to 12 months. As we work together, you’ll be getting tools for long-term success, and learning and using strategies and techniques that will serve you for many years.

You’ll work hard for sure. But it won’t all be horrible and terrible! I love sharing ideas about good books and films, and laughing together once in a while.

Doing the deep work of transformation requires a well-trained, seasoned professional. I earned a master’s in clinical psychology, and then an interdisciplinary Ph.D in the synergy of art and healing.

As part of my doctoral research, I completed the training and initiations to receive my subtle energy Reiki Master Teacher accreditation in New York City. And then I repeated the trainings with another teacher in Boulder a few years later.

I’ve been researching and practicing mindfulness and meditation for over a decade, completing two MBSR certificated training programs, both in New Mexico.

I studied Tibetan Buddhism and trained with Dr. Reginald Ray, and with Hindu spiritual teacher, Amma.

Some of my advanced clinical training as a psychotherapist includes neuroscience, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectic Behavioral Therapy), mindful awareness, emotional resilience, narrative therapy, healing sacred wounds, and post-traumatic growth.

I’m a licensed professional clinical counselor in New Mexico; my license # is CCMH0176361.

 Producing and hosting a popular public radio show, Living From Happiness (KSFR 101.1fm), for six years has given me the opportunity to go deep and get personal with thought-leaders and change-makers.

And I’m the mom of a 41-year-old special person with special needs.
